Get set for September

We’re still clinging on to the Summer and hope for a little more sun, but we’re also looking forward to September.
As children return to school, and students get set for college or university the pattern of church life changes a little. In this edition of Connect, as we look back to a wonderful Assumptiontide weekend we’re setting out some of the things we’re looking forward to next month. So, get set for September!
Penrhys Pilgrimage

Last Saturday, we gathered on the mountain top at the Shrine of Our Lady of Penrhys, with some of us walking across the mountain from Llanwonno Church.
It was a beautiful day, and you can check out the highlights in the following video and also listen to a brief reflection from the Mass on our SoundCloud pages.
Assumptiontide Celebrations

Our Assumptiontide Celebrations were wonderfully topped off with a Barbecue, Vespers, Torchlight Procession and Fireworks.
Thanks to all who made it possible and all who participated! Check out the highlights below.
Mass changes

Last week saw the first changes of Mass times and venues on weekdays.
Each day, Mass is celebrated across the Ministry Area (although Wednesday has two Masses!) Many of these Masses (including Thursday, Friday and Saturday) are followed by tea and coffee. From September, there’ll also be a cuppa at St Paul’s!
Bank Holiday Monday: please note that Monday 26 August is a Bank Holiday so the Mass takes place at 10am

Sunday Service

From Sunday 1 September, the times of Mass on Sundays will change in our Grangetown Churches
We’ll be celebrating at 930am at Ss Dyfrig and Samson, and 11am at St Paul’s. (Enjoy the little lie in!). You can read the letter from Fr Dean from a few weeks ago which outlined some of the changes as we meet with challenges and opportunities across the Ministry Area.
Ministry Updates

Appointment of MA Vicar: following the most recent meeting of the Ministry Area Council, MA officers have met with Archdeacon Rod Green to agree a parish profile and job profile for the appointment of a Vicar for the Ministry Area. After a few extra items, the draft is now with the Archdeacon and we are waiting to see the final document. We shall keep you regularly updated about the timeline of advertising and interviews.
Sunday Celebrants: This coming Sunday (25 August) Fr Dean will be celebrating the Masses at Ss Dyfrig and Samson and St Mary’s. Fr Colin Sutton will be at St Saviour’s, and Fr Jeff Williams will be at St Paul’s. Thankyou to our retired clergy who are making themselves available to help maintain the regular pattern of Worship.
Fr Edward’s Licensing as Vicar in the Garth Ministry Area takes place on Thursday 12 September at 7pm at Christchurch, Radyr. All are welcome.
Book now for ‘Bread of Life!’

Want to explore the Christian Life? Well, there is another opportunity to participate in the ‘Bread of Life’ Course beginning this September.
The course takes place each Tuesday from September 16 following the 630pm Mass at St Mary’s. Each of the six modules will explore the Christian Faith through the lens of the Holy Eucharist, which is at the heart of our life together. If you’d like to enrol then please let Fr Dean know by September 9th at the latest. You can find out a little more about the course here:
Education Sunday

Sunday 8 September is Education Sunday when we ask God’s blessing on those beginning a new Academic year whether children, young people or adults.
At each of our Sunday Masses we’ll be praying for and giving thanks for all involved in our education system, especially all who teach and learn in our Church Schools, and also begin to welcome those arriving in or returning to Cardiff for University. In whatever way you are involved in Education then please do come along!
Patronal Festivals

As we celebrate Education Sunday on Sunday 8th September at St Mary’s Church, we’ll also be celebrating our Patronal Festival for the Feast of the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
A week later, on 15th September, we’ll be celebrating the Patronal Festival of St Saviour’s which is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (transferred from 14th)
School Masses

We’re really looking forward to welcoming our Church Primary schools back in September.
St Mary’s School returns for Mass on Wednesday 4 September at 11am, and St Paul’s School returns on 11 September at 10am. Each Mass is a lovely celebration, and all are welcome!
OMG! It’s time for young people!

Our next OMG! Event for young people takes place on Sunday 22 September at 5pm at St Saviour’s Church.
All young people are invited, and it is also a wonderful time for young Walsingham Pilgrims to reconnect, and for us to hear their stories and experiences as we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham. There will be a time of worship followed by a barbecue.
Harvest

At the end of September, as Autumn begins to slips in, we give thanks for the Harvest.
Each week, we receive donations for Cardiff Foodbank, so if you are presenting any food for the Harvest celebrations, please can you ensure they are tinned or packaged. You can find out what items the Foodbank requests at their website.
