Tabernacle (1931)

At the heart of this church is the Tabernacle in which is reserved the Blessed Sacrament. This tabernacle was placed here in 1931, although the Blessed Sacrament has been reserved here since 1923.
The decoration shows a pelican feeding its young with its own blood by pecking its chest. It is a traditional symbol of the Holy Eucharist.
The tabernacle was given as a Testimonial to Walter Thomas’s Golden Jubilee of service to the parish (from 1881to 1931). He died the same year. Mr Thomas was largely responsible for 39, Cathedral Road being obtained as the central office of the Church in Wales.
