We all seek a place to call home, a place of safety and sanctuary, where we can be ourselves, free from danger and difficulties.
In so many ways, we can’t begin to understand the experiences of so many people but we are on a journey to listen and respond in ways that are helpful and effective.
Croeso Butetown

Working together with Tabernacl Chapel, St Mary’s School and others in our community, we are hoping, soon, to be able to welcome, home and support a Refugee family for up to two years.
We are doing this as members of Citizens UK and as part of the Community Sponsorship Scheme.
We have been accepted by the Home Office as a Sponsoring group and are currently looking for a suitable house in Butetown. In addition to the £12,000 we already have, we are beginning to fundraise again to compensate for the rising costs in housing.
Women Seeking Sanctuary

Women Seeking Sanctuary Advocacy Group is at home in our Ministry Area and is based at St Mary’s Church in Butetown
WSSAG is a group where women can come and meet and learn from one another and share experiences with total confidence, also making friends and connections. They are an advocacy and research group which works with and for refugee women and their families to enhance their ability to rebuild their lives.
They are committed to campaigning on women’s asylum issues, to promote positive opportunities, social cohesion, build confidence and self-esteem, and to enhance active citizenship.
They empower and support women seeking sanctuary in Wales to voice their needs and represent themselves at strategic and policy making levels. WSSAG is committed to signpost women to anti-deportation campaign organisations
Refugee Week

In 2022, we celebrated our first Refugee Week with St Mary’s Church in Wales Primary School and built upon its success in 2023.
For us, this an important week, as we celebrate the contribution that refugees have made to our country and communities, offering a welcome to all who seek sanctuary, and unravelling some of the negative narratives which have emerged.
Check out the highlights of Refugee Week 2023:
Homelessness

In October 2023, the Ministry Area adopted a Homelessness Charter which sets out our response to Homelessness and those who are homeless.
You can read more on our Homelessness page as we seek to respond to those in need.
Welcome Home

From January 2023, Cargo House (next to St Mary’s Church and School) will provide temporary accommodation for families who are homeless.
Working with St Mary’s School we will offer a warm welcome by providing a ‘Welcome pack’ to each family.
We’re looking forward to working with St Mary’s School Sanctuary Group.
Christmas 2023
This year, our Christmas Charities are Wallich and Croeso Butetown as we support those who are homeless and those seeking a safe place to call home as they flee war and danger. More details here:
