Diversity

Butetown is the oldest multicultural community in the country, and Grangetown is now the most diverse community in Wales.

We love where we live, and we have friendships across faiths and cultures, living together with respect for one another, and in peace.

Our communities are constantly changing but we celebrate our history and heritage and all that we offer to society.

Cardiff has been built on immigration and welcome, and we want to share our experiences with the wider world.

It’s not difficult to live together with difference. But we recognise that there are narratives in the world today which spin cynicism and hatred, rather than rejoicing in what we have in common.

Much of our ministry and work is simply about building friendships and seeking the peace of God’s Kingdom.

We are involved in many different projects and initiatives which work for community cohesion.

These include the More in Common’ Community Cohesion Network, the Interfaith Council for Wales, Refugee Week, Faithful Butetown and others too.

A snapshot

As a snapshot of how we work together, check out our St Mary’s Community page which shows how we work together, as Christians, to build strong and resilient communities with people of different faiths and cultures.

It gives some insight into just one community within our Ministry Area, and how we can make a difference in our world today.

Safe and Protected

As a collective of different communities within the new Ministry Area of South Cardiff, and incorporating the communities of Butetown, Grangetown and Splott, we are on a journey together.

We are committed to ensuring that all feel welcome here. We are sensitive to difference and diversity. We want to get things right. We want to ensure that all feel safe and protected.

Community Cohesion

We enjoyed working together as part of the Cooperative Councils Innovation Network celebrating the part that the arts can play in community cohesion:
