Faithful Lent Worship

This is the place to discover more about prayer and worship in South Cardiff throughout Lent, Holy Week and Easter.

A FAITHFUL BEGINNING

ASH WEDNESDAY | FEBRUARY 18

On Ash Wednesday, we take part in a corporate act of penance for the ways in which we have spoiled God’s world and strayed away from his designs. As we look towards a Faithful Lent, let’s set off on the right foot by heeding the call!

11.00 am Said Mass and Imposition of Ashes at St Mary’s Church, Butetown

7.00pm Sung Mass and Imposition of Ashes at St Saviour’s Church, Splott

SATURDAY DEVOTIONS

Saturday mornings at St Mary’s offer a gentle time of prayer.

Beginning with Morning Prayer at 10.50am and followed by Stations of the Cross, Mass begins at 11.30, finishing in time for the Angelus, followed by Prayer to Our Lady of Walsingham, and there’s always time for a coffee afterwards.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Take a prayerful journey, walking in the footsteps of Jesus, as we draw close to his saving passion and death.

Throughout Lent there are two opportunities each week across the Ministry Area.

“ELEVEN | THEIR WORDS

This resource for The Stations of the Cross uses the words of local children aged ten to eleven years old.  They describe their experiences of drugs and other issues in the place where they live.  They talk about what they see and hear and, sometimes, what they are asked to do.   We haven’t edited their words.  We have let them speak for themselves.

Their words are shared not to pass judgement on anyone, or to take a moral standpoint on anyone who uses or deals in drugs.  Those debates are for others and for elsewhere, and we hope the prayers which follow their words at each Station will embrace the needs of all with compassion and understanding.

Their words are offered simply to see their world through the eyes of some eleven years old, and a means through which their voice can be heard.  There is, of course, more to their world than the words found here.  These children are part of close knit families, a vibrant community, a caring school, and they enjoy so many things, and have so many hopes.

Their words are just one part of their lived experience.
