“Learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow”
(Isaiah 1:17)
Join us this Lent as we seek to reignite the connection between our life of prayer and worship and our need to seek and work for justice in the world.
As we receive Jesus in the Eucharist, so we are called to recognise him in the poor, the vulnerable, and all victims of injustice.
Why not join us as we seek a JUST LENT – accompanied by our free resources?
These include:
- ‘Just Lent’ Course
- 40 days of Just Reflections
- Just Stations of the Cross
- ‘A Secret Sorrow’ Reflections on the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary
- Just Lent Book Club – coming soon!

THE ‘JUST LENT’ COURSE
The JUST LENT COURSE consists of five sessions exploring Justice in the context of the Christian Gospel.
Each session begins from the catholic perspective of social justice including:
- the dignity of every human being
- the call for solidarity
- the importance of community
- appreciating Gods love of the poor
- a call to care for God’s creation
The course connects each area to the celebration of the Eucharist, so we can appreciate more deeply the link between our worship and our life of service, between our prayer and daily living.
Each session is introduced with a video (available on our website before Lent begins.)
We’re also excited to be hosting conversations online through social media, so you don’t need to be part of a local church group or even have to meet in person to be able to participate

40 DAYS OF JUST REFLECTIONS
‘They ask me for laws that are just, they long for God to draw near’
This booklet of daily reflections is a companion to our Lenten journey. Each day we focus on the many injustices which exist in our world, as we seek the Justice of God – which Christ proclaimed and for which he died and rose again.
Each reflection is based on one of the readings of Mass each day. To make this resource as universally useful and accessible as possible, we use the readings of the Roman Catholic Lectionary which is almost identical to the Revised Common Lectionary (although there may be some slight differences.)
The reflections can be used by individuals and/or at the Mass each day as a homily or time of reflection. (Please note that we’ve used the readings appointed only for the days of Lent and not for any feast or solemnities which fall in any particular year.)
Here’s an extract from the booklet, exploring the plight of refugees:

JUST STATIONS OF THE CROSS
A Journey through Injustice
These ‘Just Stations of the Cross’ take us on a journey through Injustice. The poetic reflections which accompany each Station are intended to provoke a reaction as they intertwine and confuse the imagined experience of Christ with that of someone else.
These Stations may be used as they are (or they can be further informed and enriched by our other JUST LENT resources). Please feel free to use or adapt them in a way most useful to you.
They may be accompanied by relevant Scripture Readings, further prayer, traditional prayers, or even discussion, and could be accompanied by the usual liturgical responses—for example at the arrival of each Station it is customary to say, “We adore you, O Christ and we bless you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.”
They are also suitable for individual reflection.
Here’s an extract from the Eighth Station, Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem:

A SECRET SORROW
Reflections of the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary
For each Mystery, we offer a Bible Reading and poetic reflection which intertwines the imagined experience of Jesus with that of someone who has experienced injustice followed by further elaboration on the particular theme of injustice bring considered.

OTHER RESOURCES
Throughout Lent, we plan to share more resources (including prayer and liturgical resources) to challenge and enable us to have a JUST LENT and lead JUST LIVES.
Stations of the Cross of Jesus, Priest and Victim
These Stations are designed for up to four voices, with each Station contributing to a Litany of Jesus, Priest and Victim

A ‘JUST LENT’ IN SOUTH CARDIFF
Here, in South Cardiff Ministry Area, we’ll be following our own pattern of worship, devotions and activities as we seek to live justly.
We’ll be praying and celebrating Mass each day, praying the Rosary and Stations of the Cross, engaging in Social Action and Charitable Giving, and meeting through the week to explore the JUST LENT course.
We’ll be celebrating all the Holy Week rites across the three communities and four congregations which make up South Cardiff Ministry Area, making the connections between them and the social needs we are called to address both here and throughout the world.
But we’d love to hear if and how any of our resources have been used by you, and maybe create a community of prayer and encouragement which seeks justice together.
