“The just will flourish like the palm tree.”
Joins us this Lent as we seek to reignite the connection between our life of prayer and worship and our need to seek and work for justice in the world.
As we receive Jesus in the Eucharist, so we are called to recognise him in the poor, the vulnerable, and all victims of injustice.
Here, you can find out how we we’ll be focussing on this. You can discover more about our Lenten Charities, alongside information about activities, worship and devotions during Lent, and all the details for Holy Week and Easter in South Cardiff Ministry Area.
Have you seen our JUST LENT page, full of resources for churches, individuals and clergy?

JUST SETTING OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT
ASH WEDNESDAY | FEBRUARY 22
On Ash Wednesday, we engage in a corporate act of penance for the ways in which we have spoiled God’s world and strayed away from his designs, the ways in which we have allowed injustice to flourish. As we look towards a JUST LENT, let’s set off on the right foot by heeding the call!
10.00 am Said Mass and Imposition of Ashes at St Paul’s Church
7.00pm Sung Mass and Imposition of Ashes at St Mary’s Church
DAILY MASS
The Holy Eucharist is at the heart of our life together, and it is celebrated each day across the Ministry Area.
- Monday: 6pm at St Mary’s / 7pm at Ss Dyfrig and Samson
- Tuesday: 10am at St Saviour’s / 7pm at St Mary’s
- Wednesday: 10am at St Paul’s / 11am at St Mary’s
- Thursday: 10am St Mary’s / 7pm at Ss Dyfrig and Samson
- Friday: 10am at St Mary’s
- Saturday: 1130am at St Mary’s (see below)
Throughout Lent, we shall be exploring what the Eucharist has to do with the world and with our calling to respond to need, and fight injustice. Check the weekly Bulletin for times.
SATURDAY DEVOTIONS
Saturday mornings at St Mary’s offer a gentle time of prayer.
Beginning with Morning Prayer at 11am and followed by the Rosary, Mass begins at 11.30, finishing in time for the Angelus, followed by Prayer to Our Lady of Walsingham, and there’s always time for a coffee afterwards. We offer each decade of the Rosary for our communities, and for justice everywhere.

LENTEN CHARITIES
Inspired by our JUST LENT theme we are supporting two charities, one global and the other local: Christian Aid and Foundation 4 Sport.

This Lent, Christian Aid is focussing on the transformative nature of our faith, and seeking justice.
Christian Aid believes that everyone is equal in the sight of God. For over 75 years, this truth has inspired them to stand together in solidarity with our most marginalised global neighbours, of all faiths and none.
Christian Aid is one of two Lenten and Easter charities being supported across the Ministry Area of South Cardiff. If possible, please present your Lenten Offerings at the Maundy Thursday Mass at St Saviour’s
Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of their dignity and lets injustice thrive. Christian Aid seeks to eradicate extreme poverty by tackling its root causes. Together with people living in poverty, we can amplify our voices to speak truth to power and create lasting change.

Foundation 4 Sports offers amazing opportunities and support for young people in South Cardiff
A grassroots sports development and coaching organisation, Foundation 4 Sports is based in the heart of the most diverse communities in Wales, and working across the Southern arc of Cardiff. They provide amazing opportunities for young people.
Their activities and programmes, many of which take place during school holiday times, help improve young people’s health and fitness, provide encouragement and aspiration, gives them great role models, and a safe space to be, away from harm. In their Winter programme in the New year, for example, they engaged with over 200 children and young people in Butetown alone. They are also part of the Youth Endowment Fund’s Core Team as we work alongside them to help young people flourish.
They are fast becoming specialists in offering vital support to children and young people, and we are pleased to be able to support them by choosing them as our local JUST LENT charity.
