Banns of Marriage

Banns of Marriage are one of the preliminaries to getting married in church, and many couples love to be in church when their Banns are published, when the intention of them getting married is announced.

As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful.  (Colossians 3:12-15)

Loving God,
as we prepare for our wedding day,
help us to know your love,
through the gentleness of your Holy Spirit,
and your abiding presence throughout our
married life together.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
  • You can hear your Banns of Marriage being published on the three Sundays arranged before your wedding day.
  • They will be read at the main Sunday morning celebration, along with a prayer for you as you prepare for married life together. They are read in the church in which you are getting married, and in the parish church where you live.
