Connecting you to the churches of South Cardiff Ministry Area across Butetown, Grangetown and Splott.
Our vision is to be a creative and resourceful community which is welcoming, faithful and just!
Welcome…
to our weekly bulletin. It’s packed with events, celebrations and opportunities across the churches of our Ministry Area! This week there’s details of our next Welsh Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and Shine Club for young people; we continue to remember the great Father Jones of Cardiff; we launch a brand new pub quiz night; and we look ahead to our Walsingham Devotions later in the month.
Coming up …
Eucharistic Adoration
Our next time of quiet prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, concluding with Benediction, will be on Monday 19 October at 5.45pm in Ss Dyfrig & Samson. Mass then follows at 6.30pm.
Cymun Diwedd y Dydd – Mass in Welsh
Our monthly celebration of Mass in Welsh is on Wednesday 21 October at 6.30pm in Ss Dyfrig & Samson. The words of the service are provided bilingually (as is the homily), so it’s ideal both for proficient Welsh speakers and learners.
Shine Club
Our next Shine Club, with activities for young people during the school holidays, will be on Monday 26 October from 11am-1.30pm in Ss Dyfrig & Samson. The session is open to all children and young people aged 5-16 and concludes with a free lunch.
Father Jones of Cardiff
Tuesday 22 September was the 120th anniversary of the death of Fr Griffith Arthur Jones, the pioneering Anglo-Catholic Vicar of St Mary’s. Fr Jones ministered in the Docks for over 30 years and was beloved by the people – thousands lined the streets for his funeral procession. We give thanks for his faithful ministry and the powerful legacy he has left to us. Find out more about him in the links below.

Pub Quiz Night!
In collaboration with the Cornwall Pub in Grangetown, we’re delighted to announce the launch of a regular pub quiz night. The first one will be on Thursday 15 October at 7.30pm. All proceeds will be for St Paul’s Church funds, and the Cornwall have generously offered a £30 bar tab for the winning team. Get revising!

Walsingham Devotions
It’s that time of year again! If you’re missing the joy of our Walsingham pilgrimage in July and the Assumption celebrations in August, then there’s another opportunity to catch up with friends and worship in the spirit of Walsingham. Do come along to our traditional October devotions.

Autumn Guest Speakers in Grangetown
We’re delighted to welcome a series of guest speakers in Grangetown in October to help us think about our mission and witness to the community.

Interfaith visits
Would you like to find out more about our local synagogue and mosque?
People from our churches have been invited to pay a visit to both during October. On Saturday 10 October, we’ve been invited to join the Cardiff Reform Synagogue in Moira Terrace for their Shabbat service at 10.30am, which lasts for an hour and a half.
The following Saturday, 17 October, we’ve been invited to visit the mosque in Clydach Street, Grangetown, at 10am, for an hour-long visit.
If you would like to come on either or both, please give your name to Fr Richard or sign the list in any church.
Thank you for your generosity!
The incredible range of activities that you read about in this bulletin, together with our regular round of services and ministry, is only possible thanks to the generosity of those who give financially to our churches.
We are grateful for all your support. If you don’t yet give, then we invite you to consider signing up to the Gift Direct scheme. This acts like a direct debit from your bank account every month, so that you can decided a regular sum to give. To start giving this way, click the link below. On the Gift Direct webpage, on the Beneficiary drop down menu, search for South Cardiff Ministry Area, then select the church you would like to support. Fill out your details on the online form, and the rest will be taken care of for you!
We also invite those who give regularly to review your level of giving. We are conscious that the cost of living is increasing, but this means that our costs are rising too! Once again, we are grateful for everyone’s generosity.
