Our vision is to be a creative and resourceful community which is welcoming, faithful and just!
Welcome…
to our weekly bulletin. It’s packed with events, celebrations and opportunities across the churches of our Ministry Area! This week we look back on a special OMG! event on All Saints’ Day; look ahead to Remembrance Sunday; get ready for our next Thrive at Five session; prepare to welcome our Area Dean at a Patronal Festival at St Dyfrig & St Samson; and look forward to a Christmas Fair and our next quiz night.
OMG! Time for young people
A very special OMG! was held on Sunday. It was Fr Dean’s last one before he retires. We celebrated All Saints Day and had a wonderful time, finishing with sausage and chips!
Watch the highlights in the video below …
Remembrance Sunday

On Sunday 8 November the nation will remember all those who have given their lives in time of war, as well as injured veterans and their families.
All of our churches will be commemorating this special day:
At St Mary’s there will be an Act of Remembrance at 11am, just before Mass, by the Calvary outside the east end of the church.
At St Saviour’s, the Act of Remembrance will take place after the 9.30am Mass.
At Ss Dyfrig & Samson, there will be an Act of Remembrance during the 9.30am Mass.
At St Paul’s, Mass will start at the earlier time of 9.45am. Everyone will then gather in Grange Gardens at 10.45am for the community Service of Remembrance.
Eucharistic Adoration | Welsh Mass
Our next time of Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament is on Monday 9 November at 5.45pm in St Dyfrig & St Samson. Join us for half an hour of stillness and quiet with Jesus, before we celebrate Mass at 6.30pm.
The next celebration of Mass in Welsh will be on Wednesday 18 November at 6.30pm in St Dyfrig & St Samson. Welsh learners are especially welcome, as the words of the Mass and the homily are provided bilingually.
Retirement of Fr Dean

It was announced on 11 October that Fr Dean, our Ministry Area Leader, will retire on 16 November. Fr Dean has been MA Leader since 2022, the priest at St Mary’s since 2016, and at St Saviour’s since 2008. He has served for 30 years in the Diocese of Llandaff, including a fruitful decade as Diocesan Youth Chaplain.
His ministry in South Cardiff has been marked by a passion for promoting Anglo-Catholic worship and spirituality, a commitment to inter-faith dialogue, a love for our communities and their people, and a hunger for justice. For many years he has organised the annual South Wales pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, and he has influenced, guided and nurtured many in their life of faith. We are so grateful for all he has offered over the decades. We will miss him enormously but wish him well in this next chapter.
Fr Dean’s last Mass in the MA will be on Sunday 15 November at 11am in St Mary’s followed by a buffet in church. If you would like to contribute towards a leaving gift, please give your donation to Glyn or Liz in St Saviour’s, Rachel in St Mary’s, or Fr Richard or Julian in Grangetown. Alternatively you can give it online using the following bank details:
Account name: South Cardiff Ministry Area
Account no: 43994158
Sort code: 23-05-80
And use the reference “Fr Dean”.
Thrive at Five
Our young peoples’ group in Grangetown returns on Sunday 8 November. As it will be Remembrance Sunday, we’ll be thinking of the importance of remembering things, and sharing important memories. Everyone’s welcome!

St Dyfrig’s Day
On Sunday 15th November we celebrate the life of St Dyfrig, co-patron of St Dyfrig & St Samson. The festival will be celebrated during our normal 9.30am Sung Mass, and we are delighted that one of St Dyfrig’s namesakes, Fr Dyfrig Lloyd, the Area Dean of Cardiff, will be joining us as our guest preacher. Everyone is welcome!

Pub Quiz at the Cornwall
After the success of our first outing running a pub quiz at the Cornwall Pub in Grangetown, we’re back! The next one will be on Thursday 19th November at 7.30pm. Get revising!

St Paul’s Christmas Fair
This annual event is always popular as people seek out a bargain and buy their Christmas presents and decorations. There’ll be refreshments, raffles, and of course Santa’s Grotto!

Thank you for your generosity!
The incredible range of activities that you read about in this bulletin, together with our regular round of services and ministry, is only possible thanks to the generosity of those who give financially to our churches.
We are grateful for all your support. If you don’t yet give, then we invite you to consider signing up to the Gift Direct scheme. We also invite those who give regularly to review your level of giving. We are conscious that the cost of living is increasing, but this means that our costs are rising too! Once again, we are grateful for everyone’s generosity.
